Integration USB Connect 4G - XX

The maximum performance over all LTE bands results when the USB Connect 4G - XX is connected vertically to a PCB. There may be small metal parts 2 cm near the USB stick, but they must not occupy entire side surfaces. In any case, there must be no metal parts on the top of the USB Connects 4G - XX. The surroundings can be covered with plastic accordingly, which also promotes a distance of> 20 cm from the body. For use on a typical consumer host device, the USB Connect 4G - XX is not optimized. The device is strictly for industrial use/application and installed in industrial environment.

The command interface of the device is also protected with a password. For the password, contact the manufacturer. The stick cannot be controlled without the password. This is to ensure that the device is only used by customers who can guarantee a distance of minimum 20 cm from the body when using it.

This device is not intended for remote access via LTE. This also includes firmware updates and changes to the radio settings via LTE. If a firmware update is necessary, please contact the manufacturer.

Noise from the Processor Board:

The processor board which the USB Connect 4G - XX is connected to may emit RF noise signals which results from the clocks of the processor as well as the data rate of digital interfaces such as USB. This RF noise may be received by the internal antenna of the USB Connect 4G - XX and therefore may limit your receive sensitivity. This may lead to a considerable lower RX-sensitivity in the down link. Therefore the following is recommended:

  • Ensure proper EMC-shielding of the processor board.

Noise from an active USB-Connection:

The USB-connection is a high speed data interface with a clock, which might also cause interfering RF-noise. The USB 2.0 clock noise shows up at multiples of 480 MHz since the USB clock is 48 MHz * 10 = 480 MBit/s. This type of RF-noise is quite commonly seen at 480/960 MHz on USB powered wireless devices. This might affect performance of the USB Connect LPWA in the lower frequency bands.

Therefore the following is recommended:

  • Ensure proper EMC-shielding of the USB-Connection.

SIM Card Access

  1. Unscrew the enclosure of side with the label.

...

  1. Lift off the enclosure halve at the front of the USB connector and then pull in the direction of the USB connector.

...

  1. Now you can see the SIM card holder and open its flaps by sliding them in the opposite direction from the USB connector. You are now able to put any 3FF SIM card in the holder.

Get started with USB Connect 4G - XX

Preparations & Power Up

Power Up

  1. Install the drivers for Windows/Linux operating system on your host device→ https://www.telit.com/evkevb-drivers/

...

The interface of the USB Connect 4G is based on communication from AT commands. You can use the AT controller tool from Telit to communicate the AT commands and process other functionalities → https://www.telit.com/evkevb-drivers/

  1. Plug the USB Connect 4G into the USB Type A socket of the host device.

  2. Make sure that the distance from your body to the USB Connect 4G is greater than 20 cm.

  3. If the USB socket of the host device is active, the USB Connect 4G starts automatically. The USB Connect 4G needs about 20s for booting.

  4. Now you can identify the COM port of the USB Connect 4G - XX and send AT commands to unlock the at command interface. Therefore you need to send (ask manufacturer for password):

    Code Block
    AT#SECIFAUTH=XXXXXXXXXX
